At some point in your life you have taken a history class or seen a movie based on history. What do you think distinguishes the Bible from any other type of recorded history?

1. The Bible Clarifies

1.1. Many people view the Bible as an antiquated book. However, the Scriptures declare that they can provide the light we need to make good decisions. How have you experienced the Bible being relevant in your life during a difficult or confusing time?

1.2. In a world where truth can be hard to distinguish from lies, and human nature has led us in a multitude of errant ways, why has God provided us with His story? (See Genesis 18:18-19 and Joshua 1:7-8)?

1.3. Describe the effect sin has on the human mind? (Romans 1:21-25)?

1.4. Jesus has “much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.” (John 16:12-13) How can the Holy Spirit help guide us into all the truth? What guardrails are set up for us?

2. The Bible Corrects

2.1. If we take seriously the Bible’s correction, then we should see some differences in the way we act. In what ways, has the Bible shaped your behavior?

2.2. How are love and obedience related in scripture? (See 1 Corinthians 13:1-3; 1 John 2:3-6)

3. The Bible Comforts

3.1 When the obstacles of life become unmanageable and overwhelming, where do you currently turn for comfort?

3.2 What are some of your favorite scriptures that provide comfort and peace?

3.3 Jesus describes the Holy Spirit as the Advocate, the one who remains by your side, who clings to you in order to support, defend and encourage you. How does the Holy Spirit primarily encourage and comfort us? (See 2 Corinthians 1:3-7)?
